Match report Scholes (136 for 9) beat Shepley (135 all out) by one wicket
The first hum dinger of the season saw a seemingly nerveless Louis Brook thump Olli Davidson through a vacant midwicket for the winning 4 and secure a butt clenchingly tight one wicket win at a bone chillingly cold Chapelgate.
On a low and slow dampish track run making was harder all day than buying Mel Booth a drink.
Despite being out until 430 in the morning "Ned" also played a pivotal role with the ball, bowling with rhythm and control for his 2 for 18, as did Adam France, and Josh Brook took another three wickets with his skilful in-dippers. The heavily jet lagged Tom Brook, back from Oz on Saturday night, put in a remarkable 13 over spell to collect an excellent 4 for 35 from 13 accurate overs. Bradley (36) top scored with Danny Glover and Aussie first class keeper Smith both making 26, as Shepley posted a lowly 135 all out.
Pete Drysdale top scored for Scholes with only 22, but this was a true team effort, somewhat aided by the odd decision to take the excellent Khan off and give Davidson's off spin a go, as the dangerous France entered the fray with Scholes eight down and still needing another 27 runs. 21 runs came from a fateful over, and although Khan came back to quickly york France, his 18 had changed a low scoring match, and the stage was set for the youngest of the Brook brothers triumvirate to take centre stage, and keep Scholes joint top at this early stage of the season.
