Match report To quote the venerable Bubbles “I’ve been playing this game for decades boys and I’m telling you post 150 plus in these first few games and your always in with a shout”. And so the hirsute soothsayer proved a wise marsupial as Scholes’ 169 for 9 proved to be far too many for a magnificently supported but out of sorts Golcar.
Kiwi newcomer Drysale made a nugget 27 and skipper Bruiser Brook a fluent 37 but Noble’s undefeated 41 stood out as a mature and responsible innings. France flayed a late 26 too.
Sloppy on his rapid return to Chapelgate and Hinchliffe bowled nicely and Cobba had 4 victims, the first of many this season.
Golcar never recovered from losing Cobba lbw for only 4 to youngster Louis Brook, and two daft run outs in the middle order didn’t help. All bowled well but Bruiser was simply outstanding snaring 5 wickets, swinging it both ways and barely bowling a loose ball, as the visitors were dismissed for 93 in the 35th over, forcing the legions of Golcar suppers to nearly drink the bar dry! Great start boys.
