Match report Slaithwaite (195 for 9) beat Scholes (170 all out) by 25 runs
How Slaithwaite deserved this victory. Maybe we were a little complacent after such a good start to the season, we certainly missed a trick not bowling Cockles or Pete, just to break up the relentless medium pace, but whatever reason and some very good batting by a motivated home side got them up to 195 for 9 on another ridiculously cold afternoon. Top scorer was Max Berry with 39, which must have pleased "tree" no end and was good to see. He was backed up by Walker's 32, and he went on to secure the man of the match award with a superb match winning 4 for 68, in which he troubled every batsman and bowled both Scholes Kiwi batting lynchpins Carter and Drysdale. Tom Chadwick made a splendid 62 in our reply but there was only limited support from Noble's 32 and Louis Brook's uncomplicated slogging for 25 at the close, as we never really looked like overhauling Slaithwaite, who rightfully rejoiced long and hard at the close as they won by 25 runs. The one point we got for getting over 75% of their score will keep us top of the table...scant consolation for a pretty poor performance to be honest.
