Match report Moorlands (162 all out) lost to Scholes (167 for 3) by 7 wickets
Lovely afternoon and a lovely set up at Premiership newcomers Moorlands, and excellent real ale too. The twin pitch set up suited us too as we all watched "Windy miller" take at least 8 wickets for the second XI playing against Mirfield Seconds on the adjoining ground, with an action off the wrong foot that made Paul Adams look like Michael Holding...well you had to be there folks. "Windy" even graciously acknowledged our applause as he came off after they won by about 200 runs. As I'd walked in I'd also noted an incredible dead ringer for Chapelgater's quinquagenarian Jay Patel batting for Mirfield..only to be quickly informed it was indeed the purveyor of the finest home made curries in the Holme Valley playing far from home.
Anyways back to the game and Moorlands just didn't make enough runs on a good wicket, they just played far too many expansive shots against a tight Scholes attack. The giant Fortis battled his way to 68 and Rounding made 31 but that was about it...yet again Josh Brook had three wickets and Tom Brook a fine 4 for 56.
Tommy Cockles finally found his form with a lovely 45 in our reply, and matched the brilliant Carter stroke for stroke while they were together. Joe made a scintillating 74 with some trademark huge 6's over midwicket onto the other ground, and we cantered to a reasonably nerveless victory in the 34th over. I especially liked Padgett's accurate leg spin for Moorlands.
