Scholes Cricket Club First Team v Shepley on Sat 09 Aug 2014 at 1:30pm
Scholes Cricket Club Lost 0 Points

Match report We said goodbye to three friends of Scholes CC on Saturday as tributes were paid to Colin Jessop, Simon Walker and Ian Mellor before the match. On the field the players served up a fitting feast of exciting cricket in front of a healthy Chapelgate crowd as Shepley's Kenyan international Duncan Allan won the game for the visitors with a five wicket haul and superb unbeaten 109.
Scholes elected to bat on the fastest and bounciest track seen at Chapelgate recently, and Tom Chadwick raced to a fluent 41 before nicking the always impressive Danny Glover to Tiny behind the stumps. Drysdale had been patience personified but it backfired as he too fell lbw to the Shepley skipper for 7. Tom Brook top scored with a hard hitting 44, Noble had a welcome return to form with a punchy 41 and France swiped 29, but when the latter perished by the sword in the last over Ernie and Co looked confident over tea as Scholes raised a slightly under par 195 all out. Glover snared an admirable 4 for 67 and Allan bowled with heart, pace, bounce and verve for his 5 for 70,his figures slightly damaged late on by Bubbles' trademark square cuts.
What an innings it was by Allan, as the next top score was Glover's 22. He certainly rode his luck, dropped fairly early on off a relative dolly, and he was plagued by a leg injury throughout. It was also an extreme display of brinksmanship as Shepley reached the last over needing 19 to win with the last pair at the wicket. Drysdale had put in his best bowling performance of the season with his 3 for 23 off 12 overs of off spin, and France had steamed in and bowled fast for an excellent 4 for 24 in 11 overs. But Allan had backed himself and his gamble came off as he smote four mighty sixes in succession to take Shepley to an unlikely victory which just about keeps them on the shirt tails of the haughty Hoylandswainers at the top of the Premiership. Great game, great effort and greatly promising for next season boys as we hope to recruit well over the winter.
